Young Professionals Network: Fall Reception 2019
November 5th, 2019

As we do every changing season, we held our Fall Networking Reception for the Mexican Professionals living in New York City, in collaboration with APEM Foundation and MexPro. For this occasion the reception was hosted by CMX CinéBistro (Cinemex) at their Manhattan theaters; the event was attended by 120 young professionals looking to expand their business network and CMX raffled some movie tickets among other prices for our attendees. We hope everyone had a great and productive time and we are looking forward to our first networking event in 2020 really soon.

A Conversation with H.E. Martha Barcena, Ambassador of Mexico to the United States
November 15th, 2019

Her Excellency Martha Barcena, the first female Ambassador of Mexico to the United States, updated our Members on the ratification process of the USMCA, talked about the key issues on the U.S.-Mexico business and economic agenda and the opportunities and partnerships between both countries. We received 70 attendees and the event was hosted by Duane Morris. At the end of the presentation our guests enjoyed some Mexican wine sponsored by Monte Xanic.

Myths and Realities of the Cannabis Industry in Mexico: A Business & Investment Perspective

This past November we had our first ever conference related to the cannabis industry in Mexico, we had the expert opinion of three panelists (Evan Michailidis - Partner at Duane Morris, Andrew Rudman - Managing Director of Monarch Global Strategies and Juan Serrano - Partner at Sanchez Devanny) spoke about the current situation in Mexico in terms of legalization and also the lessons that could be learned from the U.S. market. The event was hosted at the offices of our member Duane Morris, that has a big practice in the industry, attended by 30 people and sponsored by Monte Xanic wines.

CoDi & the Fintech Payments Ecosystem in Mexico
November 20th, 2019 - Washington; November 21st, 2019 - New York City

Collaborating again with Banxico (Mexico’s Central Bank) we held two conferences about their new payment app named CoDi:

  • November 20: Presentation by Miguel Diaz – General Director of Payment Systems and Market Infrastructures of Banco de México in Washington, DC at the offices of our member Morrison & Foerster and was attended by 25 fintech experts and government agencies representatives.
  • November 21: Presentation by Miguel Diaz from Banxico, followed by a panel discussion about the Fintech Payments Ecosystem in Mexico (Panelists: Richard Diamond - Global Head of Financial Technology and Information Services, Citigroup; Andres Fontao - Co-founder & Managing Partner of Finnovista; Rodrigo Ocejo – Founder of Kuspit; and Joshua Ashley Klayman - U.S. Head of FinTech and Head of Blockchain and Digital Assets, Linklaters LLP). The event was hosted by our member Linklaters at their Manhattan offices and attended by 40 industry representatives.
