Littler, the world’s largest employment and labour law practice representing management, has expanded into Canada with a new office in Toronto that will employ seven Canadian lawyers from respected law firms based in Toronto. The move establishes Littler’s 67th office and follows a period of global expansion in which the firm has dramatically increased its international footprint, particularly across North, Central and South America.

Smile Train is proud to provide an update about the Mexican Association of Cleft Lip and Palate (AMLPH), one of Smile Train’s largest and most important local partners in Mexico.  Annually AMLPH organizes a National Congress where local medical professionals dedicated to providing care for children with clefts are able to come together. This year’s 2015 Congress was a tremendous success. In Puebla, Mexico from October 7 – 10, AMLPH hosted close to 600 local Mexican medical professionals –surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, speech therapists, dentists, orthodontists and psychologists from across the country  and Smile Train was the main sponsor. Please visit the AMLPH website for more information.

Smile Train prioritizes its partnership with AMLPH because of its significance to the thousands of children affected by cleft lip and palate born across Mexico each year. First, AMLPH empowers local Mexican medical professionals from across the country to share best practices and advancements in care. This then improves the safety and quality of care that Mexican children can access. Second, AMLPH involves medical professionals from all disciplines –surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, speech therapists, dentists, orthodontists and psychologists. Involving such a diverse array of local medical professionals ensures that the entire cleft child is cared for. This is the best way to ensure that every child born with a cleft has the ability to live a full, happy life. And finally, AMLPH spreads awareness about the importance of cleft lip and palate care in Mexico and the region. Not only does this help local Smile Train partners find more children in need of services, this also helps ensure the next generation of local medical professionals are inspired and dedicated to entering this important area of work. This awareness ensures sustainability of local Smile Train programs across Mexico and the region.
