On October 24th the U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce,
Northeast Chapter (USMCOC-NE), in collaboration with
PROMEXICO and AT Kearney organized the seminar
“Mexico as a Nearshore Destination”, in order to
discuss the IT capabilities and Business Process
Outsourcing in Mexico. The conference consisted of
panels with top Mexican Government officials,
Mexican leading outsourcing companies and experts,
as well as AT Kearney specialists that discussed
Mexico’s advantages and challenges as a nearshore
destination. It was a great surprise to see a
higher-than-expected turnout in the seminar, and to
learn about such a dynamic industry.
As some of you might know, during the past years,
Mexico has been attracting more U.S. and global
private equity investments. That is why the USMCOC-NE
decided to set up a conference in order to present
and discuss the current situation and perspectives,
as well as the challenges and opportunities of this
important sector. The speakers of the seminar, which
included experienced lawyers, private equity fund
managers, and advisers, engaged in a high-level and
interactive discussion that revealed the great level
of interest in the sector. Some of the topics
included in the discussion were legal, tax and
operational framework, as well as case studies and
funds’ experience in Mexico. Given the great
response of this event, the USMCOC-NE is considering
organizing a private equity seminar focused on some
specific industries at the end of 2008.
We were also pleased to organize a conference with
the Mayor of San Miguel de Allende together with
several real estate developers of the area that came
to New York City to promote the attractive
investment opportunities of this beautiful town in
Central Mexico.
Our traditional Holiday Season Reception took place
in a warm and chic loft in the heart of Soho, in
which the attendees enjoyed delicious Mexican food
served by Toloache and participated in the silent
auction that featured hotel stays and air tickets to
Mexico.
