During the past few months the
Chamber facilitated a variety of very successful
events that continued to reinforce our commitment to
provide our members with valuable networking and
informational opportunities to advance business
relations between the United States and Mexico.
The period started in April with
a remarkable conference about mining in Mexico in
which Norberto Roque Díaz de León, General
Coordinator of Mining at the Ministry of Economy of
Mexico, discussed the investment opportunities, as
well as the regulatory framework and support
mechanisms that exist in the country’s mining
sector. During the same month, the Chamber organized
the Mexico’s Economic Outlook seminar, which brought
together different perspectives from various market
participants that included experts on economics,
sovereign debt rating, fixed-income, foreign
exchange and equity strategy.
In May, we were pleased to have
Jesus Reyes Heroles, the CEO of PEMEX, who addressed
the business and financial community about the
company’s current situation and perspectives for the
future. Mr. Reyes Heroles highlighted that while the
state-owned company faces great challenges in terms
of investment and preservation of facilities, it is
in a financially stable condition, and his
administration will make every effort to maximize
opportunities to fulfill the company’s potential.
Another successful event that took place in May was
the conference with Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico City’s
Mayor, who shared some of the economic development
strategies his administration is using to accelerate
the growth of the City. Mr. Ebrard’s presentation
focused on his team’s plan to enhance human capital,
address infrastructure needs, and implement
strategic planning tools to make Mexico City a more
competitive and equitable City.
