Dear Members,
As we all are witnessing, Mexico’s 2006 presidential
race has started remarkably far in advance to the
elections date. We are already experiencing a
condition of political confrontation and turmoil
amongst parties, presidential contenders,
politicians and even officials of the current
administration. Our business planning, decision
making and performance are being significantly
influenced by the political atmosphere that
dominates the current Mexican living and we all are
going to be certainly impacted by its final outcome.
The United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce,
Northeast Chapter, as a non-profit organization with
no-political affiliations and with a genuinely
commitment with the future of Mexico is greatly
interested in promoting a serious analysis and
debate of the platforms and proposals developed and
presented by parties and candidates pursuing the
presidency of Mexico.
We should promote and stand for the development and
discussion of comprehensive and intelligent
proposals that address both the opportunities and
the necessities and problems of our country. As a bi-national
business organization we should also foster the
discussion of those issues that affect our business
performance and the business relations between
Mexico and the United States.
For those of us who are Mexicans, it is our
responsibility not to promote the vote for one or
another party, but to ensure that votes are the
result of an informed and meditated personal
decision.
As part of the commitment we have assumed at the U.S.-Mexico
Chamber of Commerce, we have already started our
2006 Presidential Election Series. We have invited
the candidates and their campaign teams to
participate in a series of conferences and seminars
in which they will have the opportunity to present
their vision and proposals to our members. We have
also invited personalities and political analysts to
share their thoughts and analysis on the election
process and its participants. We have already opened
our Series with the presence of Jorge Castañeda,
presidential independent candidate, and we are
securing the participation of candidates and pre-candidates
of Partido Accion Nacional (PAN), Partido de la
Revolucion Democrática (PRD) and Partido
Revolucionario Institucional (PRI), as well as those
candidates representing other parties in Mexico.
Furthermore, we are having recognized analysts such
as George Grayson, who recently spoke to the members
of the Chamber on Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and
his presidential aspirations.
I personally invite you to participate and closely
follow our 2006 Presidential Election Series, we
will keep you posted about the dates and places of
each event. I am sure that we can make a difference,
please do not let go this opportunity.
Sincerely yours,
Eduardo Ramos-Gomez
President
U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce
Northeast Chapter
