Photography Outreach
Project: Communities Without Borders
Communities Without Borders is an outreach project
in which the photography is the instrument to
connect with the growing population of Mexican and
other Hispanic immigrants that are often the least
visible, most marginalized members of our working
communities.
Immigration and the cycle of migration impact both
the health of the individual and his community. The
physical and mental stress of migrating and the
living conditions in a new place result in higher
rates of depression, substance abuse, communicable
diseases, and diseases associated with poor
nutrition including diabetes, hypertension, and
obesity.
Created by Hudson River HealthCare, Inc., a not-for-profit,
federally funded Community and Migrant Health Center,
the project provides a unique opportunity to engage
new immigrants and build trust; a determinant step
to ultimately provide them with the health services
they need.
