Nowadays, Mexico represents one of its major markets,
where it is constituted as a leading insurance
company. MetLife is an insurance company specialized
in individual and group life insurance, as well as
in retirement savings products for the private
market. In June 2002, MetLife took a major step for
its strategic and market positioning in Mexico
MetLife by acquiring Aseguradora Hidalgo, a former
government owned insurance company, leader in life
insurance. The outcome of this acquisition was the
consolidation of MetLife Mexico as the largest life
insurer with more than 4 million people insured.
But MetLife interest and commitment with the Mexican
market is not exclusively concentrated among its
core business –life insurance- and its related
services. In 2005, MetLife initiated its
participation in the Mexican Retirement Savings
System, through the establishment of AFORE MetLife,
a specialized private pensions fund manager.
In Mexico, the company participates in social
initiatives focused on education and education for
health, through "Lazos" and "Teletón" programs.
Early 2005, launched the Metlife Foundation for
Mexico and was recognized as "Socially Responsible
Company" by the Mexican Center for Philanthropy.
