Delta boosts business in El Bajio with two new routes from Leon to Los Angeles and Atlanta

The Bajio region has experienced significant economic development due to investments by the Mexican automotive and manufacturing industries. Now Delta Air Lines is contributing to this economic boost with new daily nonstop flights. The two new routes, established in December 2013, provide customers greater flexibility when traveling from Leon to Atlanta and Los Angeles.

Business professionals have welcomed the direct flights and access to major U.S. cities provided by the route to Atlanta. Travelers at this U.S. hub can reach most important business destinations in the U.S. within 2.5 hours. Now, with direct travel to Atlanta, Delta passengers departing from Leon have efficient access to over 950 daily flights to 224 destinations, including nonstop service to 66 international locations. In order to further improve customers’ experience both in the air and on the ground, Delta has invested in Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport by building a new international terminal and installing full Spanish language signage throughout the facility.

The new service to Los Angeles meets the demands of travelers flying to the West Coast of the United States and connecting to cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Portland, Las Vegas, and San Jose. Via Delta's new Leon-L.A. gateway, Mexican customers can easily connect to high demand Asia-Pacific destinations including Sydney, Australia, and Haneda and Narita in Japan.

Automotive companies and suppliers in particular benefit from this new flight opportunity, since many manufacturers establishing plants in Mexico are Asia-based. While the automotive industry’s success has significantly increased movement between the two regions, Delta now offers customers unique advantages. With the establishment of these new routes, passengers can check in their luggage directly from Leon to airports in Narita or Tokyo without stopping overnight in Los Angeles.

Delta has spent the last three years enhancing its Los Angeles service: for example, travelers through Los Angeles International Airport will soon enjoy the $229 million expansion and renovation of Terminal 5. The project will double the size of the ticketing lobby and screening checkpoints, open an exclusive Sky Priority lobby and checkpoint, update the Delta Sky Club, and install new baggage carousels. This complete refurbishment has already begun and is scheduled to take place in several phases with full completion in 2015.

Travelers have good reason to be thrilled about new flights: Delta offers the best flying experience in the industry, with in-air entertainment, WiFi service onboard, and hot meals in the Business and Economy cabins. The routes are operated by Delta Connection partners ExpressJet and SkyWest using a 76-seat CRJ-900 aircraft with 12 Business class seats, 12 Economy Comfort seats, and 52 Economy seats.

With the addition of these new daily routes from El Bajio, Delta connects 10 cities in Mexico with the most important destinations in the United States. These new routes from Leon to Los Angeles and Atlanta are a huge step toward achieving Delta’s goal of being the best U.S. airline in the region.

2Q- 2014 Manhattan Sales

Report Summary:  The Manhattan spring market was very active with more sales than last year. Although inventory has been rising since reaching an unprecedented low at the end of last year, the supply of apartments for sale still remains unusually low. We saw the highest number of listings sell at or above their asking price in nearly six years. Sales have been rising for nearly two years and the co-op market has been particularly strong this year. Increasing prices have incentivized additional buyers to consider co-ops due to their greater affordability. We expect the improving economy, low mortgage rates and high international demand to continue to drive the market in the coming quarters.

About Our Reports:  Produced in conjunction with Miller Samuel, a leading independent appraisal firm, our market report series is the benchmark for residential real estate market information and an essential reference source for consumers, the media, financial institutions, government agencies, researchers and other market professionals. Each report provides an analysis of price and sales trends as well as many other metrics to give readers an idea of current conditions as well as historical and emerging market trends.

Smile Train’s Mexico Program is developing quickly, now providing 2000 new smiles annually. Our program is so successful because of the Mexican professionals and hospitals we work with on the ground. Smile Train partners with cleft providers across the country to provide free surgeries and follow up care to poor families year round.

To continually improve our local programs, our Mexican partners organize a cleft congress every year through their National Cleft Association. This congress brings together major Mexican hospitals, universities and professionals - surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, therapists, dentists – for an intense 3-day event.

This year’s meeting will be in Veracruz, October 8–11th.  We are writing to encourage Chamber members to become involved in this great event. Your participation as a vendor/sponsor will help the event, Association and members become sustainable in our mission. By supporting the event, you will help guarantee Mexican children the best treatment and bring Mexican professionals to the forefront of global medicine.
