Last months were characterized by
a series of events covering different sectors and
interests of the Membership. In July we held a
conference with Arturo Herrera, Secretary of Finance
of Mexico City, where he presented the financial
status and results of the administration of Andres
Manuel Lopez Obrador as Mayor of Mexico City.
Besides the financial and economic information that
was presented and discussed by Mr. Herrera, this
conference represented an interesting proxy to some
of the economic policies and core of the platform of
Mr. Lopez Obrador as a candidate in the Mexican
Presidential elections. Another close collaborator
to Mr. Lopez Obrador that recently addressed our
Membership was Manuel Camacho Solis, an extremely
active politician who is currently Congressman for
the Partido de la Revolución Democratica (PRD)
and international affairs advisor to Mr. Lopez
Obrador |

During this period we also had
the visit of Armando Rivera Castillejos, Mayor of
the City of Querétaro, who joined a business
roundtable to discuss investment opportunities in
the City of Querétaro, one of the Mexican cities
with high economic growth and enormous potential as
host for multinational companies and
corporations on
the automobile component and home appliances
industries.
Like every quarter, we also held
a members-only roundtable with Arturo Sarukhán,
Consul General of Mexico in New York, to analyze and
discuss the evolution of the economic and political
situation of Mexico and its relations with the
United States.
As part of the series that the
Northeast Chapter is organizing with successful top
business executives and leaders of Mexican firms and
corporations, we arranged a conference with Carlos
Fernández, Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Modelo,
leading Mexican producer of beer with exports to
over 150 countries, including Corona Extra, the best
selling Mexican beer in the world. He discussed the
challenges the company is facing and commented on
its strategy to maintain and consolidate its global
market positioning. Likewise, we had a conference
with Rodrigo Treviño, Chief Financial Officer of
Cemex, in which he discussed the financial strategy
the company is following to consolidate its position
as leading global company in the cement industry.
The Chamber is currently organizing several
conferences for this series, that will create a
major forum for Mexican companies to strength and
expand their relations with the New York business
and financial community.
On September 16th, the
Chamber celebrated Mexico’s Independence Day with a
Gala attended by more than 375 people. As every
year, the official ceremony was conducted by the
Consul General of Mexico in New York, Arturo
Sarukhán, who was accompanied by Eduardo
Ramos-Gomez, President of the Chamber’s Northeast
Chapter, our guest of honor Arturo Rivera, Mayor of
the City of Querétaro, and representatives of the
official agencies and organizations of the Mexican
Government in New York. As it is already a tradition
in this event, our members and guests experienced a
culinary sampling provided by the best Mexican
restaurants in New York (see Member Spotlight
Section) and enjoyed traditional Mexican music
performed by our featured opera singers from
Querétaro accompanied by Mariachi band.
