Mexico's Reforms: An Economic & Political Analysis
   In 2013, President Peña Nieto presented an unprecedented number of constitutional and structural reforms regarding key sectors including energy, telecommunications, antitrust, labor, banking and finance which were subsequently approved by Congress. Congress is currently discussing secondary regulations for some of the reforms while others are expected to be presented within the foreseeable future. Presently, the most significant challenges are the pending discussions, approval and implementation of said reforms which would provide Mexico with unparalleled growth and development opportunities. We invite you to listen to our expert analyst group and their opinions from both an independent economic and political perspective regarding the process and potential outcome these reforms may have on Mexico.

   We will be supporting Peninsula Press in their event "Monterrey Investment Outreach 2014" which will bring Mexican business leaders together from its most competitive manufacturing center, Nuevo Leon and its capital city Monterrey, as well as senior state and federal government representatives. Mexico-Massachusetts Innovation Economy Networking
   ***MEMBERS ONLY*** Members, please join us for an evening networking reception with the delegation from the 2014 Massachusetts Innovation Economy Trade Mission to Mexico. Led by Governor Deval Patrick, members of the life sciences, cleantech, and digital technology industries will be in Mexico to identify business and collaborative opportunities. During the event, the Governors of Massachusetts and Zacatecas will jointly announce one of the largest solar PV projects in Latin America – the ZacSol 1 project in Guadalupe, Zacatecas. The Governors will be joined by project owners Vertex Ingenieros Consultores, Constructora e Inmobiliaria Zacatecana, and Grupo Domos as well as Panel Claw and Solectria Renewables, two of the leading solar PV component suppliers from Massachusetts.

Corporate Restructuring & Bankruptcy Procedures
   As part of the recently approved Financial Reform in Mexico, important changes to the Mexican Law of Restructuring and Bankruptcy Procedures (“Ley de Concursos Mercantiles”) were enacted. Prior to this reform, certain recent cases that resulted in successful restructurings also raised significant controversy and uncertainty. The changes to the Ley de Concursos Mercantiles were intended to provide more certainty and more efficient procedures to protect the interests of different parties involved. Join this conference which will provide a forum for discussion of what these reforms are, how they might be applicable to current cases and how certain challenges experienced in the past could be addressed under the new regulatory framework.

Professor Jorge Castañeda ’73” on NAFTA
   *MEMBERS ONLY* It has been twenty years since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was initiated. With a particular emphasis on the United States and Mexico, our guest lecturer will discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked with NAFTA and what needs to be done going forward. The guest speaker will be Dr. Jorge Castañeda (Princeton) ’73, a renowned pubic intellectual, political scientist and writer, with an interest in Latin American politics, comparative politics and U.S.-Latin American relations. Dr. Castañeda was Foreign Minister of Mexico from 2000 to 2003. He has dealt with diverse issues in U.S. – Mexican relations, including migration, trade, security, narcotics control, joint diplomatic initiatives on behalf of Latin American nations, the promotion of Mexican economic and global trade relations. Sculpture Unveiling by Juan Soriano
   ***Management Committee & Board members only*** The U.S.-Mexico Chamber of Commerce has been supporting a project in which three monumental sculptures of the Mexican artist, Juan Soriano, will be displayed at The Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in New York City. The unveiling ceremony will be this Wednesday, November 5 at 5:00 PM in the Plaza, followed by a private reception at the World Bar (a few steps from the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza).
