Almost 50 million accounts are administered in the Mexican Pension Fund System Assets under management by AFOREs are above US$160 Billion, which represent 12.7% of Mexico’s GDP As of now 20% of their assets can be invested in foreign instruments and securities Recent changes to the investment regime for AFORES allow them to use and invest in foreign REITs and engage in swaptions As part of the Financial Reform recently presented to Congress, it is discussed changes to allow more diversification in the investment regime for AFORES, changes to the commission structure, strengthening of the AFOREs, corporate governance, among others.
